Bargain Hunting

I began consignment shopping over 20 years ago and it is still a passion for me.  I am sure there are many of you that have never shopped in a consignment store because you may think it's full of old smelly clothes.  That may be true at some stores,  but not all.  There are lots of great second hand shops out there with bargains just waiting to be found.  I frequent quite a few consignment shops in my area but one of my favorites is The Fashion Exchange.

The moment you walk through the door you know you have not entered your typical consignment boutique.  You will always find gorgeous eye popping jewels greeting you, a huge selection of quality designer clothing and a warm friendly smile from it's owner for over 27 years, Janet Falkenthal.  

Janet took her years of retail & fashion experience which included working in England for a French importing company, and opened her shop in Newtown, Connecticut in 1984.  Her love for fashion and anything beautiful is evident in the decor and ambiance.  You won't find any stained, torn or musty smelling garments in her store.  What you will find are designer brands like Coach, Donna Karan, Prada, Jimmie Choo and other top named designers.  If that is too expensive for your taste, don't worry, she has clothing from Ann Taylor, Talbots, Banana Republic and Cache, just to name a few!  And all of these can be found at bargain prices!  In a recent post I showed photos of some of my recent finds.  I love knowing I can score some of the latest runway trends at a price that is nice to my wallet!  What makes Janet's shop unique is the huge selection of new costume jewelry which she hand picks herself.  There is something for every taste and local brides-to-be flock to her shop to scoop up baubles for themselves as well as their bridesmaids.  

Janet's most recent endeavor has been to open her second shop in Danbury, Connecticut.   The same beautiful atmosphere and fashions abound in this store as well.  In this shop you can also find some hand selected consignments for your home!  

If you have never given second hand shopping a try, this shop is sure to change your mind!  If you live out of the area, there are great consignment shops in every state so ask around and give it a shot!  There's nothing like coming home with bags of quality designer clothing at a fraction of what you would have paid retail!  I love the thrill of the hunt and never knowing what I may find on one of my shopping trips. This is just a sampling of some of the items in her shop right now.
